Steve’s love affair with music began at an early age listening to his father’s eclectic record collection.
Growing up in the North West of England during the 70’s (an era rich in musical creativity and diversity) solidified the bond even further.
A regular visitor to the legendary Blackpool Mecca Highland Room and Wigan Casino provided a unique perspective of how Disco, Funk, Boogie and Northern and Modern Soul could co-exist whilst at still embracing the vibrant musical heritage of my West Indian parentage.
Years passed; eventually leading to a DJ residency in Nottingham playing a diverse selection of music from Funk, Soul, Disco, Jazz to Punk and Indie music; which led to stints on Pirate Radio befriending Lorna (who at the time was studying at Nottingham University.)
The musical love affair has yet to diminish; if anything, it’s intensified.
Realising that the global pandemic provided a much-needed opportunity to connect people through those uncertain times he reached out to Lorna, AD and Paul and collectively brought Groove Genie Radio to life with a common creative purpose love what we do and play some great music.
